So What Exactly is Engineered Hardwood Flooring?
Engineered hardwood flooring is in fact real hardwood flooring. It’s just manufactured differently than solid hardwood. Engineered wood flooring planks are constructed with a multi layer softwood plywood core cross stacked and glued together. Only the very top layer aka “wear layer” is exposed hardwood.
This top “wear layer” can vary in thickness and will determine how many times the floor can be sanded and refinished. We recommend purchasing a product with a minimum of 3mm wear layer. And just like solid hardwood, engineered hardwood is also available in a variety of species like Oak, Maple, Hickory, etc. Another fun fact…3/8” and 1/2” are common thicknesses and 3” to 12” in width.
So we just scratched the surface about this kind of wood flooring. And we can keep going on and on about text book data but we don’t want to bore you. So to keep it simple, here are a few more benefits of purchasing an engineered hardwood.
