Do not walk on the floor until the floor has dried according to the manufacture recommendation. The average dry times for the Bona Dri-Fast stains and the Bona water-based finishes vary between 2-4 hours. Obviously humidity will affect these dry time. Bona recommends that you do not walk on the floor for the first 24 hours.
No bare feet, shoes or pet paws on the floor minimum of 72 hrs. The finish will be susceptible to scuffing or marring until it is completely cured in approx. seven days. If you can wait, this is better. SOCKS ONLY/ NO PET PAWS
We recommend keeping all pets off the floor during the floor installation and finishing process. This also includes the curing time of the the finish. We also recommend regular nail trimming. Dog claws are generally harder than wood, so when you look across the floor and see indentations, these are actually claw dents in the wood not scratches in the finish.
Do not place furniture for a minimum of 72 hours after the last coat of finish is applied. Do not scoot or drag furniture across the floor, place it. Place felt pads on anything that comes into contact with the wood floor, especially those pieces that regularly slide across the floor (bar stools, kitchen chairs, etc.) Regularly clean dirt that may get trapped in the felt pad. Inspect and replace felt pads quarterly. DO NOT PUT AREA RUGS BACK FOR SEVEN DAYS. Do not roll refrigerators across the bare floor. The wheels WILL indent the floors. Use 1/8” masonite board over a towel or rug, place in front of fridge and roll onto that.
Do not use the hardwood floor cleaner or any other kind of chemical cleaner for the first seven days. Spot cleaning with water only is fine.
Sweep or vacuum regularly, since built-up dirt, grit and sand can damage the surface of the wood. If using a vacuum, the head MUST be a brush or felt type.
Be certain the wheels of the vacuum are clean and do not damage the finish (plastic wheels should be avoided if possible.) If using a broom, be certain that bristles are soft rather than stiff. You can also use a dry mop with a dusting head as long as it is clean and dry.
During construction or during move in, be certain that installed flooring is protected from traffic. NEVER use any tape (including blue low impact painter’s tape) or any other adhesive backed products on the wood floor surface for installation and floor protection.
If the flooring must be protected from traffic, use only a brown “kraft” type of paper, or breathable padded surface-liner (follow manufacture instructions) that will allow the flooring to “breath”. Do not use cardboard as it can leave marks in finish.
If another brand or type of finish other than Bona has been used, or if the flooring was pre-finished, only use approved maintenance and wood floor care products. The approved products are generally manufacturer specific to the type of finish and or treatment. We do not recommend “off the shelf” store brand cleaners. even if they state they are for hardwood floors, unless specified by the finish or flooring manufacturer. Failure to follow these instructions could void your warranty.
NEVER lay plastic of any kind or any other non-pours material over the flooring as this can trap moisture and damage the flooring and finish.
Maintain proper and consistent temperature and humidity conditions in our home throughout the year (ideal conditions range from 30% to 50% humidity.) This may require the use of a humidifier in dry or arid climates or a dehumidifier in high humidity regions. It is especially important to avoid extreme temperature and relative humidity changes from season to season.
DO NOT wet mop the floor
Place walk-off mats/ rugs each exterior entrance to your home to trap dirt and debris.
After the floor finish has cured, we recommend the use of Bona Pro-Series or Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner only. It is specifically
designed to prevent damage, lengthen the life of your finish and not leave a dulling residue. It will also ensure the adhesion of the new of finish down the road the it is time for the maintenance coat or if a repair ever needs to be done. Bona Pro-Series Hardwood Floor Cleaner is available for re-order through Tri-Point Flooring.
Make sure that you rinse/ wring the mop cover that is provided in your mop kit approx every 100sf or 10’x10’ area. Wash after each use.
We DO NOT recommend the use of any type of cleaner that is provided with labels that include terms like, “shines, protects, polishes, restores, refresh, adds luster.” They likely contain additives that will void warranties and may even damage the floor. This includes Bona Hardwood Floor Polish, which leaves an acrylic residue on the floor which will give it a temporary shiny appearance, but once it wears off the only way to remove it is to either professionally chemically strip the floor or re-sand and finish the floor.
Unless otherwise specified, it is IMPORTANT to NEVER use: OIL, wax or petroleum based cleaning products including but not limited to: Oil soaps, liquid, or paste wax products or other household cleaners that contain lemon oil, tung oil, silicone or ammonia. Use of these and other such products will hard the long-term performance and appearance of your floor and may also affect future maintenance coats (Any damage caused by the use of theses non-recommended products is not covered by the warranties. PLEASE NOTE: This also includes the use of vinegar, citrus and water solutions. Vinegar and Citrus contain and acidic element that can have an oxidizing effect on the finish.
Avoid walking on the wood floor with cleats, sports shoes and high heels. A 125lb. women walking in high heels has an impact of 2,000 pounds per square inch. An exposed heel nail can exert up to 8000 pounds per square inch. This kind of impact can dent any floor surface.
